At a seminar I attended a question was posed to the presenter. It was asking what would be recommended to be used for persons for whom the gold standard drug was unavailable.

Now, to be fair, this is a question I find I commonly asked in many other areas and, in fact, at other seminars with other conditions and drugs. But when I think about it... the question has the answer within it.

You see, if the gold standard isn't available, is there a silver or bronze that is?

Like...

What's the alternative?

Sometimes I think we forget that there are other things that can work when the one we are used to using is unavailable.

Yes, we can find love again after divorce.

Yes, there is another pair of shoes that can work with this outfit, if those are ruined 'forever'.

Yes, we can use flashlight or even candlelight if electricity goes out.

Yes, there is another way.

Look, I'm not saying I don't fall prey to thinking in one direction, but if I am faced with the reality of not having somethings then whether by force or by choice my life will go on. So an alternative or nothing will have to be found. Sometimes it is in these moments we realize we never needed the darn thing after all!

Like most things life teaches us, our ability to recognize and adapt to change will ease or slow our way along our journey. So as a reminder to both of us, let us take each moment of change we are faced with as an opportunity.

And perhaps we will learn to create and even anticipate these moments. Instead of being dragged to and through them.
