I saw the look on your face as you turned to walk away today
It was crestfallen
A little afraid
And truly doubtful.
I wanted to make you feel better,
Take you away from the pain.
Then we would leave that moment of sorrow
For the time being at least.
But I didn’t do that.
I let you stay.
I let you stay so you could grow through it instead.
While I left, hoping your pain would be short and your determination to get better would be strong.
Though it is my hope, I still wonder.
‘Did I do the right thing?’
Leaving you to go alone on that ride?
These moments,
These lessons,
They are hard on both you and I.
One never really knows
If what is being taught is being learnt
Until lots of time has passed by.
